The most prestigious gelato tournament in the world starts in a new 100% digital format.
Gelato Festival America celebrates its 11th anniversary with a brand new competition format and a new Coffee Competition, realized in partnership with Rancilio Group and Caffè Vergnano.
“This year, the chefs in competition are not only making the best tasting and most creative gelato flavors, they are assisting us in modeling a new and cutting-edge digital festival format by interacting with the nation from our storefront in Los Angeles” says Gabriele Poli, Gelato Festival’s Founder and President.
Starting from November 17th 2020, 36 chefs from all over the United States compete in three stages hosted at the Gelato Festival Store in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. Winners from the three competitions will move on to compete in the World Final.
Due to the Covid-19 health emergency, the Gelato Festival’s fan can not attend live events, but can follow the competitions s on the Festival’s social platforms. In addition, Gelato Festival is offering a sampling box of the 12 artisanal gelato flavors developed by the competing chefs and produced using top of the line machinery provided by Carpigiani. The boxes are available for purchase from the Gelato Festival website until December 9th and automatically activate purchasers into the popular jury, allowing them to vote on their favorite flavor by scanning the QR code on the containers.
The gelato competition is judged by two juries: Popular, consisting of all those who purchase a box.; and Technical, which includes a panel of high profile chefs, journalists and influencers including Honorary Judge, Giada de Laurentiis.
To complete the experience offered to all fans, all boxes feature fresh Italian coffee courtesy of Caffè Vergnano and a 10% off coupon for the purchase of the Silvia espresso machine and the Rocky grinder, iconic products of the Rancilio Home line. This discount coupon is valid until December 23rd 2020 and can be activated only in the USA.
The competing chefs also challenge in a Coffee Competition, serving an espresso, a milk beverage and an alternative milk beverage. All of the beverages will be made using RS1 espresso machines provided by Rancilio Group, coffee will be provided by Caffe Vergnano and milk by Califia Farms. The coffee jury is composed by Francesco Luminati, Elisa Criscione and Mark Skorheim. For the occasion, the Coffee Competence team of Rancilio Group North America has hold a a training course on the use of RS1 for all competing chefs.
